I received an email from Ingrid a couple of weeks ago, demanding that I remove these images of her from the site. She didn’t ask nicely, she shouted (in ALL CAPS), and threatened me with legal action if I didn’t comply immediately. Not, I thought, an intelligent way of opening proceedings. I told her, in no uncertain terms, to ‘go ride a horse’, as I had paid her a not inconsiderable amount of money to shoot those shots, and also had a signed model release from her, and a signed invoice for the payment. She told me she had forgotten we had ever done the shoot, even though it was done in 2006. Hardly an age ago (though she did try to make out it was too long ago to remember, which is rubbish), and hardly a forgettable shoot, since we shot in an amazing (and expensive) location, plus I provided a top (and very expensive) make-up artist to make her took good at the time. Ridiculous really…

The reason I mention this is because – every now and then – I get emails from past models who will try everything they can to eradicate photographs of themselves from the Internet (even if the photographs were produced completely legally and in good faith), which really pisses me off. This, I believe, is entirely WRONG of the models to do so, and is something I will continue to resist with all my might, because it is unfair on the photographer to take their money and later try to get them to remove the shots simply because the model regrets doing the shoot, or is embarrassed by the shots. I can tell you: they certainly don’t regret taking the money…

In the case of Ingrid’s shots, what made it worse from my point of view, was that the shots I took were actually very classy, compared to some of the other glamour work I’d seen published of her on other websites. There was no nudity in my shots (primarily because Ingrid told me she didn’t do nudity – a lie, as it turned out, but one that I respected at the time), though Ingrid obviously had no problem taking the money and baring all for georges-girls.com, or a couple of other adult websites I’d seen her on, or in Croatian Playboy. In those other photographs she stripped off, simulated masturbation, and did all those horrible things that crappy glamour models tend to do (ie. lick their lips with their tongue; put their little finger in their mouths; expose their breasts over their bra; put their fingers down their knickers; et cetera). Those photos are easily found if you type her name into Google…

Ultimately, Ingrid’s belligerent email strengthened my resolve to show these shots, and not comply with her removal request. Not something I’m choosing to do out of spite, but simply because I paid a lot of money to shoot those photographs, and want to see them available to view. In my mind, there’s no point being a photographer if your shots are never seen. I don’t shoot for my own ‘private collection’ (though a great many so-called photographers do – shudder to think) – I shoot to be seen. That Ingrid doesn’t see this is nothing short of stupidity on her part, not mine.
